About island of Rab !
The island of Rab is part of the archipelago which is located in the Kvarner Bay of the Adriatic Sea, in the northern part of Croatia. Beside the ancient town which bears the same name as the island, there are seven other idyllic places to explore: Barbat, Banjol, Palit, Kampor, Mundanije, Supetarska Draga and Lopar. There are approximately 9000 inhabitants who live mostly by agriculture, fishing, shipbuilding and tourism. Today, the tradition of organised tourism already celebrates its 112 anniversary.
Rab is the southernmost island in the Kvarner Bay archipelago, with mostly Mediterranean vegetation. You will notice that the moment you step on the island on a hot summer day. Along with the crickets' song, you will be welcomed by a delightful immortelle aroma combined with other scents, produced by different herbs thriving through brusque rocks. When you leave the bare, somewhat savage looking ferry harbour of Mišnjak, the island begins to be seen in a completely different light. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate the vegetation is dense. Besides the indigenous holm oak, Rab is covered with evergreen forests. In this marvellous part of the Adriatic live approximately 9000 inhabitants. During summer the number triplicates. of the 28,000 accommodation units available, there are 16,000 beds in private accommodation alone, in single, double and triple rooms of all categories, as well as in suites and well equipped flats. Together, places on the island create a unified tourist complex, as they are open for visitors.
The Kampor village !
Kampor, maybe the most of all places on the island, kept the appearance of an old fishermen town. There are also new cunningly nested houses open for all tourists. The vicinity of the Kalifront forest and the long beach, old houses under the hill and the new ones, fish and indigenous vegetables, all of this is Kampor, a charming dance between old and new, perfect for contemporary man. At the entrance of Kampor and the brim of St. Euphemia bay, lies the Franciscan monastery which was built in 1445. Today, the Franciscans are celebrating the 550th anniversary of its existence. This picturesque town offers 1,250 beds in high category rooms as well as 700 in flats and suites.
